Babassu Oil

Babassu Oil, or cusi oil is a clear light yellow vegetable oil extracted from the seeds of the babassu palm, which grows in the Amazon region of South America. It is a non-drying oil used in food, cleaners and skin products.

The oil is light yellow when melted, white when solidified, with a slightly nutty odor.  Babassu Oil cold press oil.  Unlike coconut oil whose heavy nutty fragrance clashes with the aromas of many popular essential oils, Babassu mixes well with most all other oils.

    Amazing Oil

I seriously love this oil. Most of my formulations contain this butter. It makes my lotions feel soft and silky. Prefer this over coconut oil.

    Solid Oil

I didn't realize this was a solid oil but it ultimately doesn't matter. Set the bottle in warm water a few minutes prior to using and it pours beautifully. Adds a nice texture to my whipped body butter. Would recommend for anyone looking for an alternative for solid coconut oil.

    Babassu Oil

Posted by Humboldt Soap Company on Jan 23rd 2020

Though the oil itself is a great product, I gave a 3 star rating rating due to how it was packaged. I have purchased Babassu from a different supplier in the past and the gallon size was packaged in a easy access pail (bucket) and I just figured that's what makes sense. Babassu oil is solid at room temperature, so it never occurred to me that if I ordered a gallon size from Make your Own (which I did) it would come in a pour jug instead of a wide mouth pail. I had to put the jug which was full of solid Babassu oil (so of course there was no pouring it out of the jug) into a larger bucket full of hot water to melt the oil inside (which obviously had been melted at least once already to get it into the jug) and then I could pour the remelted oil into a bucket. This was frustrating and time consuming to say the least. I have ordered quite a few ingredients from MYO and been very happy and it made no sense to me that they would package a solid oil this way. So just know what you're in for if you order the gallon size.

I LOVE Babassu Oil and this one has always performed well in my formulas. All the goodness and more of Coconut Oil without the greasy feel!

    The Silky OIl

Posted by Aerin on Aug 12th 2019

Even if I do have to melt it to get it out of the bottle because I live in a chilly place, it is worth the effort. It really does feel wonderful in lotions. Or just rubbed straight on. Feels so much nicer than coconut oil in any application.
