FD&C Blue No. 1 Aluminum Lake Batch Certified Color

A classic, vibrant Blue lake Colorant, popular  for so many uses and products - from bath bombs and other cosmetics to dying textiles like cotton or wool.

Batch Certified and Approved for use in Foods, Drugs and Cosmetics.

FD&C BLUE # 1 Aluminum Lake is a highly loaded Lake color, and  has been certified at 41% total dye load.

Certified for use in - Food, Drugs & Cosmetics , in amounts consistent with current Good Manufacturing Practice.

In Drugs & Cosmetics - colorants are approved for use including those intended for use in the area of the eye.

In Cosmetics, the color additive can not not be exposed to oxidizing or reducing agents or any other conditions which may affect the integrity of the color.

When making bath bombs, bubble bars or bath salts, we suggest using a surfactant such as polysorbate 80 in your liquids stage at a typical rate of 1-2%.  Aluminum lakes are oil dispersible but not oil soluble or water soluble.

FD & C Blue # 1 is used in cosmetics, nail polishes, melt and pour soaps, cold process soaps, for dying textiles and has a wide range of uses and applications, Experiment and use it in a variety of ways for a beautiful  vibrant blue .

DIRECTIONS:  Powder disperses best in oil and oil based products.  For dry products, add the needed amount of the colorant powder to the dry ingredients. Incorporate color to formula by adding very small amounts at a time. The colorant can also be used in water based products, by first being  dissolved in liquid USP / food grade glycerin.

Color: This colorant produces a beautiful vibrant color in clear bases, but will cloud or become opaque in most clear bases. A pastel blue color is achieved in white or off white bases.

Color Migration: When compared to FD & C Dyes, most of the  lake dyes are less likely to migrate between layers of melt and pour soap. If your soap or other product  has layers of colors, like layered soap, over use of the dye may  cause colored layers to migrate or “bleeding” between layers. Try different methods and experiment.

Physical Form: Vibrant Blue fine Powder

Solubility: Insoluble.  Dispersible in oil. Try dispersing in glycerin for products used in water systems.
Storage: Keep product away from humidity, in room temperature and in an airtight container always.
Shelf Life:  Indefinite if stored properly in a sealed airtight container.

Our Lakes are very concentrated - this one is 40% dye loaded, so a  little goes a LONG WAY.

to protect hands, use latex or nitrile gloves. Protect the surfaces you are working on, as these colors are very concentrated and will stain counter tops, wood, clothing.

Using too much dye may cause staining while manufacturing and when final product is used.

Always test your final product to insure optimal performance with no staining.

Always keep a retained sample to ensure optimal long term quality and shelf life and for later comparisons

I was luckily enough to be one of the first ones to purchase this product. Let me just say there is no need to go anywhere else for Blue 1 lake. The dye load is OUTSTANDING! I highly recommend this lake for bath bombs.
