Soda Ash is used a lot in water treatment of all kinds. From Swimming pools to water and wastewater to adjust the pH you'll find soda ash being used. It also has application in glass manufacturing, and as a chemical intermediate.

Soda Ash is also found in many common  consumer products like in  detergents (it is also known as Washing Powder), cleaners, pH adjustment, and Tie Dye. 

Swimming pools Used to adjust pH UP In pools the correct water chemistry is essential to maintaining a consistent swimming pool environment. The pH is a critical part of this chemistry. If your pH is too low your pool water may become acidic, chlorine residuals dissipate rapidly, eye irritation may occur as well as corrosion to metal fittings, pump impellers, and heater cores. Low pH also causes a rapid loss of alkalinity. To avoid problems listed above, pH should always be maintained between 7.2 and 7.8. The most desirable level for pH is between 7.4 and 7.6. If pH is too low - run alkali demand test if available. Raise pH by adding soda ash (sodium carbonate). Never add more than 2 lbs per 10,000 gallons in a single treatment. Be sure the pump is running when chemicals are added. Allow to recirculate then retest to determine if further treatment is necessary. If problems with low pH persist, it is sometimes necessary to INCREASE total alkalinity to stabilize the pH.

Storage

Keep in a cool (preferably below 85°F, the cooler the better), dark and dry store-room.

Shelf Life

Under optimal storage conditions, in original unopened drums/containers, minimum two years.
